The West Moberly First Nations is located a 35-minute drive/40 kms northwest of Chetwynd, BC at the west end of Moberly Lake. The area is surrounded by the lake and rivers, trees, and mountains. About the position
The Recreation Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated community recreation plan for West Moberly First Nation (WMFN). The integrated plan will provide positive recreation activities for all ages and be coordinated in conjunction with other WMFN departments’ activities. The Recreation Coordinator will oversee and administer recreation and sports programs and activities, conduct research, and develop programs and policies related to recreation, sports, and physical fitness.

Planning

  • Develop a comprehensive Community Recreation Plan to meet the needs of all WMFN community members in coordination with the Front-Line Worker Committee.
  • Plan recreation, leisure, fitness, wellness and health promotion policies and programs that support social changes.
  • Assess community needs and integrate traditional and cultural learning into the recreation program.
  • Create and manage daily and monthly financial budget the Recreation Program.

Recreation Activities

  • Create awareness and Implement wellness, fitness, and health promotion programs.
  • Provide training for all age groups in human wellness and physical activity.
  • Increase community involvement and health opportunities for all levels of member fitness.
  • Work with culture department to market cultural activities and camps to create and promote inclusion and interest in programs.

Partnership Development

  • Develop and foster partnerships for integrated program delivery with:
    • Tansi Friendship Centre
    • Chetwynd Recreation Department
    • All Treaty 8 First Nations

Funding and Reporting

  • Develop a template to maintain accurate and detailed records of program activities.
  • Monthly report, including budget status, of Recreation activities.
  • Quarterly and annual Band General reports.
  • Reports as required by funding agencies and program guidelines.
  • Identify funding opportunities to support recreation activities.
  • Prepare and submit funding proposals to the Health Manager to support recreation activities.

 

Requirements

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

Qualifications/Education:

  • Post-secondary education in Recreational Programming, Education, or related program.
  • At least two years’ experience in wellness, recreational education, or coaching.
  • At least two years’ experience working within a first nations community.
  • Occupation First Aid with Transportation Endorsement (condition of employment).
  • Experience with First Nations community dynamics in relation to outside industry, organizations, and other communities.
  • A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license & reliable transportation.
  • Comply to Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
  • Must be Bondable.

Full time employment, 70 hours every 2 weeks, Monday to Friday (every second Friday off), along with a comprehensive salary, and benefits package.
