The West Moberly First Nations is located 32 kms northwest of Chetwynd, BC, at the west end of Moberly Lake. The area is surrounded by lakes, rivers, and mountains. Location of position:

This is an onsite role at the Band office at 7434 W Moberly Lake Rd, Moberly Lake, BC V0C 1X0.

About the position

The Community Wellness Navigator provides assessment, liaison support and social development planning for the community. They will plan and consult with clients, families, and appropriate agencies and resources, as well as prepares the client and family to manage client needs, and/or life situations, including emotional, mental, addictions and child protection.

Program Responsibilities:

Client and Family Relations

  • Works respectfully and collaboratively with an Indigenous and trauma-informed lens and cultural safety awareness to support children, youth, and families.
  • Collaboratively develops and implements plans by identifying client needs, establishing long- and short-term goals and resources to support the children and families.
  • Advise family caregivers and help plan for client needs.
  • Create plans that engage clients to take an active part in their own successful healing and development, re-evaluate and update plans as needed.

Case Management

  • Ensures the ongoing management of cases by monitoring progress towards goals, coordinating services, consulting with other service providers, examining the terms of the contract and making referrals to other agencies.
  • Prepares clients for court by explaining the purpose, ensuring client has access to legal counsel, informing the clients of other witnesses and explaining expected court behavior and appearance. Work collaboratively with Ministry of Children and Family Development to implement and facilitate WMFN’s Section 92.1 community agreement under the CFCSA.
  • Facilitates alternative processes for dispute resolution. Collaboratively engages families in determining appropriate processes (e.g., family group conference, mediation etc.) then arrange, implement, and participate in the selected process; assess and ensure that the resulting plan addresses child safety.

Administration

  • Maintain confidential records for each client.
    Keep clients informed of all requirements and obligations and of all useful resources.
  • Community Engagement: share family support information, tools, and resources to the community as a whole and at an individual level.
  • Maintain secure and organized filing systems.
  • Maintain sustainable working relationships with community agencies, schools, law enforcement and courts.
  • Attend scheduled department staff meetings.
  • Attend required in-service programs.
  • Participate in continuing education activities and assist in the in-service training of other employees.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Requirements

Competencies and Skills

Education and Work Experience:

  • Minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in social work, or Child &Youth care, or related Human Services field; Or a combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 1 year work experience in a related social work or human services field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent assessment, interviewing, and counselling skills
  • Expertise in mental health and substance abuse areas preferred.
  • Knowledge of psychopathology and with range of therapeutic interventions.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require and must know when to refer a patient for further medical assessment.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion.
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to confidentiality.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good understanding of the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) and the Federal Act, An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Metis Children, Youth, and Families C92.
  • Ability to investigate complex family situations and assess risk – receives, assesses, and responds to concerns of child protection.
  • Assess strengths and needs, inquiring with appropriate agencies developing safety plans, and determine if children or youth need protection.
  • Recovers from or adjusts readily to change and challenging circumstances.
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always implementing a trauma-informed approach.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Salary Range
