Housing Maintenance Summer Students

The WMFN Housing Maintenance Dept. is posting for 2 Summer Students to work as members of the Housing Maintenance Team. Students/youth must be aged 15-30 years of age to apply. Wages for the Summer Student positions is $18/hr. Personal protective equipment will be provided, except Students must provide their own steel-toed work boots. Hours of work will be Mon-Thurs 8:00AM – 4:30PM, and every other Fri 8:00AM-2:30PM. The Housing Maintenance Summer Student will report directly to the Housing Maintenance Supervisor and take direction from the Supervisor and/or the Housing Maintenance Assistant, in the completion of assigned Housing Maintenance tasks and duties.

The Housing Maintenance Summer Student positions will be starting as early as June 26, 2022 (dependent upon successful applicant’s school schedule) and will be complete as of Sept 1, 2023.

Responsibilities
To work safely on all assigned tasks, including:

  • Completing all assigned training and orientations as per WMFN Policy
    • Orientation and onboarding documentation provided by the Executive Assistant
    • Online safety training
    • On-the-job training and orientation
  • Completing all pre and post use tool, equipment, vehicle, and machinery inspections

Housing Maintenance Tasks, including:

  • Carpentry/Framing
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Heating/Cooling
  • Drywall
  • Painting
  • Roofing
  • Doors and windows
  • Foundations

Tool, Equipment and Machinery Operations and Maintenance

  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Students must provide their own steel-toed work boot, otherwise all PPE is provided.
  • Hand and Power Tools
  • Small Equipment and Machinery incl/ small engines
  • Vehicles

Pick up and Delivery of Goods and Materials

  • If licensed, performing pick up and delivery of goods and materials on and off-reserve for various work order tasks and projects.
  • If unlicensed, assisting licensed personnel in the completion of these tasks.

Requirements

Competencies and Skills

Education and Work Experience:

  • Must be Student in High School and or post-secondary studies, returning to studies in fall of 2023.
  • Must be 15-30 years of age.
  • Education and work experience in areas previously identified above desired, but not required.
  • Computer literacy desired, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge, education, and/or experience in Housing Maintenance tasks desired, but not required.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Able to follow directions, and if unsure, willing to ask for clarification.
  • Good work ethic.
