West Moberly First Nations is located 35 minutes/40 kms northwest of Chetwynd, BC at the west end of Moberly Lake. The area is surrounded by the lake, rivers, trees, and mountains. Our early childcare program focuses on holistic child development. Our philosophy is to support healthy child development in the areas of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, language and spiritual growth.

About the position
The successful applicant will work alongside an Early Years childcare team supporting the development and implementation of the West Moberly First Nations (WMFN) Dakii Yadze Centre, a licensed Multi Age Care Program, primarily serving ages 12 months to 5 years. This program operates in accordance with the Community Care Facility Act. This is a full time position with an average of 35 hours/week from Monday to Thursday & alternating Fridays.

What We Offer
An opportunity to work and live in a beautiful community, with a Northern Living Allowance. The successful candidate could live at the lake, in Chetwynd or Hudson Hope areas.
Full time employment, 70 hours every 2 weeks, Monday to Friday (every second Friday off), along with a RRSP program and benefits package. Competitive wages starting at $24/hr with an additional $4/hr Wage Enhancement for fully certified ECE’s.

Requirements

The Successful Candidate
You will preferably have experience working in a First Nations community with knowledge of cultural practices or a keen interest in the culture, however not mandatory. You have a zest for play-based learning, outdoor education and working knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework.

Your toolkit will bring:

  • Self motivation with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An engaging style who works well as part of a team and is also able to work independently.
  • Certificate required, or willingness to enroll in the ECE/ECEA online/local courses
  • Courses, training or education in a relevant field (child development, child guidance, health, safety & nutrition)
  • Childcare First Aid (or willingness to obtain) as specified by Community Care Facility Act
  • Relevant work experience in an educational setting (i.e. teacher, teacher assistant, volunteer, daycare)
  • Experience working with both children and their families/guardians
  • Knowledge of child development and the various stages of development
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and experience working in First Nations community
  • Must be 19 years of age
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
